Alright! Now, we’re talkin’.

So: sit back, read up on each of the workshop we have to offer below (we promise the description isn’t that long) and sign up. Seats are limited. First come, first serve.

One thing to keep in mind, though, these workshops are not free.

It costs IDR 1,850,000 per person for each workshop.

All workshops will be conducted on SUNDAY, MAY 6 2018 @ The Jakarta Post

Address: Jalan Palmerah Barat No. 142-143, Jakarta 10270

Keeping It Unreal: Dreams and Fantasy — Have you got a Harry Potter in you? Or some Disney-esque story that you know will beat Elsa at her own game? Or maybe you’re a Tolkien fan looking to build a complex world populated by walking trees, wizards and kings and queens and hobbits? Whatever your dream world may be, this workshop will motivate you to step out of your box of reality and reimagine the world as weird and as fantastic as you desire. People think writing fantasy stories is easy, all you have to do is dream. But you’ll be surprised. It’s not enough to just dream stuff up, you actually have to put in the work of bringing that fantasy into reality.

What’s In A Memoir? — You know that story about that cousin who did that thing and it caused that huge problem for everyone and so you went to that place to fix things and you got that crush on that guy/girl and you ended up in some crazy relationship that lasted forever until you decided enough’s enough? Okay, we don’t think you need further introductions. This is a workshop about writing that story in your life you can’t not share. It’s so profound your life was completely changed by the story. This is not a workshop about writing your entire life story; it’s about a series of moments that become the narrative of your turning point. How does one go about writing a memoir, anyway? Would people actually care to read it? Find out.

Instructors: Dai Fan and Xu Xi

When: Sunday, May 6 2018 | 10 am – 1 pm

Picture This: Visual Writing — Some people are good at picturing things, down to the tiny little details, and then presenting them in the form of really, really descriptive writing that does not end up boring the heck out of their readers. That’s the real challenge, isn’t it? How do you bring your writing to life using details that matter? Is it true that a picture is worth a thousand words? And if you wish to use both images and text in any document, whether it’s for work or pleasure, what’s the best way to go about it? Can you actually work your way around words and pictures and not have them overlap each other? What’s the deal, anyway?

Instructors: Lawrence Ypil and Francesca Rendle-Short

When: Sunday, May 6 2018 | 2 pm – 5 pm

A Story for Godot — You remember that play by Samuel Beckett in which two guys are waiting around for some guy named Godot to arrive and how throughout the entire play, all the way to the end, he never does? No, this is not a playwriting workshop. And we won’t actually be talking about Godot. We just want to celebrate one thing … that was a damn good story that Beckett wrote for us. He got us to sit through an entire play waiting for someone who never came. If the story didn’t work, we wouldn’t have stayed. We wouldn’t have cared. And that is what we’re going to talk about in this workshop. Awesome storytelling. What’s the catch? How do you engage people with stories? How do you conceptualize a good story? A great story, even? And how do you turn stories into experiences for your audience? If you think you’re good at storytelling, take this workshop — it will give you extra ammos. If you think you still need to learn about great stories — do not miss this workshop. Great stories can change people, which is to say they can change the world. Don’t believe us? Give it a shot.
